Causes of SRPE?
What are the causes of the SRPE condition?
The exact causes of SRPE are not known, since this medical condition is rare, and not studied extensively by doctors.
However, many men have reported the following theories, in no particular order:
1. Nerve compression in the lumbar spine (in the “cauda equina”);
2. Pudendal neuralgia
Damage to the pudendal nerve, the nerve that runs through the perineum region and provides nerve function to the penis, scrotum, and anus;
3. Psychological factors like stress, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD);
4. Taking or stopping taking SSRI antidepressants (possibly in combination with benzodiazepines);
5. A result of excessive masturbation, or of “edge-ing” and/or clenching of the pelvic floor muscles while masturbating;
6. Excessive stress put on the pelvic area, for example from cycling;
7. Hypertonic Pelvic Floor
A condition where the muscles in your lower pelvis are in a spasm or state of constant contraction.
